Two more fabrics for the two more laundry bags.... they are Jo Morton fabrics and I got them for $ 7.95 per meter.

I am giving away four ( 4 ) fat quarters of the Turkey red fabric, it is a reproduction fabric, I went back to the shop the other day and bought what was left on the bolt. There are now nearly 9 meters in my cupboard.
Leave a comment and I will draw the four winners on Tuesday 7th for my Birthday.
We are having a big Pizza day this Saturday as there are five of us having a Birthday in the same week.

My son turned 30 this Tuesday, my daughter in law is tomorrow, my grand daughter Emily will be 2 on Saturday and my son in law will celebrate his Birthday Monday in Afghanistan and mine is Tuesday coming.

I am having a re-draw for the little pattern as the last winner didn't get in touch, leave a comment if you like to be in the draw for it.

I have also bought this book for myself after I received a Christmas Bauble last Christmas as the way from Norway, thought I try and knit some.

Banana Republic ?????

I didn't think think we are a Banana Republic in Australia, but we sure are not good at fixing things that we all pay high Taxes for.

I am talking about our Road, yes I know we are a big Country and only have x amount of Tax payers, but we have had one Bridge under water last year January 2011 and because it is an old Bridge has not been re-opened.
Needless to say the newer Bridge is down to one lane in and out of Petrie. They just closed the Bridge and this is how it has been for 12 month.

The traffic going in and out of Petrie is a nightmare, there is another way that could be used but it gets flooded with any decent rainfall and the Highway going north is a nightmare at the best of times. Sitting in that traffic and having to put up with that as well as bad tempered drivers in not a lot of fun.
This is really grinding on the good old nerves, apparently the Bridge is not being fixed or rebuilt is because Sate and Local Council are arguing about who is paying, well let me tell you I and every one paying HIGH Car registrations is paying so get on with it.
We also get massive pot holes in new roads after a good down poor....
I have written to the local Member and we see what will come of it, I told her not to write back until she has an answer.
The other thing I am thinking of starting is a Petition going. These Politicians need a kick in the you know where.....

And you know there are still so many people without their Homes after the floods due to the Insurances playing silly buggers too, my heart goes out to them.

Teaching again

Yes I am back teaching some classes and this is my new Introduction to needle turn Applique, we only work on the centre block in the one three hour lesson.
I have plans to make this a larger quilt over time, I usually plan my quilts as I go.

Clothing

I don't know about any of you, but when I buy clothes I just buy them hoping they fit as I hate trying on clothes in the shops.

I get all hot and bothered..... so needless to say I have the odd pair of pants and shirt that are just a little snug ( well don't fit ), but have to say I tried one pair on this morning and they fit. So instead of going to the shops straight away I can just have a look in my wardrobe and find something to wear that is new as I lose this weight.

That is a bonus I guess....

Funny Story

I went to a large shopping centre ( mall ) last week and as all you Australian readers know we have little shops, side stand in the middle of the isles.
Anyway I was going past this make up place and this handsome young 6 foot plus young man waved a card at me to have my make up done, as I don't wear make up I waved him off, anyway he stopped me and said :

Imagine ( french accent )

I am a make up artist form France and could I please ask you one question? I said yes and he said what do you use on your face for your skin? I said nothing, he said nothing? I said no never........

His reply:
Oh wow you sure have beautiful skin... grin do you think he thought I change my mind about having my make up done?

Laugh I said to him I think it is because I am a little chubby.

This doesn't happen to me very often, you know hitting 50 last year and all the rest but it made me smile anyway.

I went today for my weigh in and planning my exercise program and guess what.....

I have lost 2.2kg or nearly 5 pounds in the first 4 1/2 days, yippppeeeeee.

Laundry Bags for our Soldiers

I made two yesterday morning and have posted them to Jan-Maree

They are very fast and easy to make.

I have also bought 5m of fabric ( no I don't need any ) but couldn't leave this in the shop as it was only $ 7.95 it is a reproduction and I used it in my Kim McLean quilt and this will be the backing.
The colour in the picture is not true, the sun came in to my room, it is a real Turkey Red........

Today has been the second day on my diet, I have enlisted help and am going to a weight loss clinic, I am tired of being overweight and in pain. Wish me luck !!!!!
I want to be fifty ( well turned that last year) and fit and fabulous, very big grin............ normally my DH would sabotage my efforts but I have told the dietitian and she said if he does to bring him in and she will have a chat to him, hihihihih.

I told him and he said you didn't tell her that, oh yes I did.

Trip to the US

Well yes I am going again and can't wait, it will be wonderful.

It is again a organised trip by the wonderful Gail from Sew Creative, but this time it will be about a month.

We are first going to take part at the Applique Academy Baltimore on the Prairie, the trip will take us also to Washington DC, New York, Baltimore and Canada....

I feel very selfish, but DH said he is going to have a holiday by me being away, how do you think I should feel about this statement? Men.............grin

Hopefully I can fit in meeting some of you wonderful quilters, that would be a bonus.

Laundry Bags for our Soldiers

( this is only a sample, we would like them in different fabrics for each, check out Jan-Maree's blog and you can see all the wonderful different bags )

You need:

2 pieces of fabric, one is for lining and one for outer Laundry bag about 42/44 inches x about 30 to 32 inches ( I made this one just using a sheet to show you, would make the outer different, maybe even a heavier fabric)

one 4 inch strip x 42 inches ( casing for the cording )

Cording about 50 inches

cut selvage off, fold width in half and stitch the the two seams, down one long side and the bottom, repeat for lining but leave a gap ( see second picture ) in the bottom for turning inside out later.
Outer Bag and Lining will measure about 21 inches by 30 inches ( not that important as long as the two measure the same)

Fold the two ends of 4 inch strip twice ( about 1/2 inch each time) and do a triple row of stitching just to make it a little stronger.
Fold in half length wise with right side out. You can see in the picture below that the strip will be shorter than the with of the bag.

Pin to the right side of the outer Laundry bag with the raw edges matching and stitch, turn the outer Laundry bag right side out, see picture below

Now tuck in the outer Laundry bag inside the lining bag and match the seam and stitch around the whole bag, you can now pull the outer bag through the gap in the bottom of the lining. Stitch the gap and push the lining inside the Laundry bag.
Topstitch around the bag just as picture and feed in a cord.

Laundry Bag

As some of you might know, my son in law is leaving for Afghanistan/Tarin Kowt on the 30th December and I read on Jan-Maree's blog about these laundry bags, because all the issued laundry bags look alike the laundry often gets mixed up and goes missing.
Jan-Maree and her group have made personalised laundry bags for some soldiers so they can recognise their laundry quicker on it's return to the base.

With Lee leaving at the end of this week I made his laundry bag today, it is lined and I used some left over backing I had. I think it turned out lovely and I am sure Lee will be able to pick out his laundry quickly from the others.
If any of you would like to do something for our soldiers to make their life away from home easier, this would be a great gift.
Happy to send you the instructions, measurements and to send them on to Afghanistan.

As I told you before I was lucky to be asked to choose some items from the wonderful people at Indygo Junction for me and also a copy each for my readers.

The Book is just lovely and I would love to make some of the cushions as well as the Family Tree wall hanging or maybe even the lovely Christmas one.

Small Quilts

I have had these fabrics from a fabric club I belong too, I get 16 pieces that are about 10 x 10 inches ever other month.
After using them to make a small quilt for my Secret Santa Christmas swap, as well as a pin cushion and a Christmas tree decoration I still had plenty left and made these two quilts in the picture. The HS triangle one is 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches and the log cabin quilt is 12 1/2 x 16/1/2 inches and guess what I still have fabric left. Sorry picture is on it's side and I can't get it to stay the right way around.

Gee fabric goes a long way, now I don't want to make anything else from these fabrics and if you like them and like making small items leave me a comment and I draw a name in a week.

Made in 2007

This little quilt is Sophie's first quilt I made her and it has been on her wall, it has now come home to me for a wash.
I did enjoy doing all the little embroideries and the hand quilting.
Have also bought two new book to enjoy.
My doctor appointment last Thursday was very interesting, I have now an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon to decide if I get a half or full knee replacement. Apparently part of my join is bone to bone and because of the pain I walk funny and my heal spur is still playing up.
Not sure what I would be doing without the wonderful painkillers, grin.
Never a dull moment is there...

Barack Obama

I am watching the news this morning and they are showing the speech President Barack Obama gave at the State Dinner in Canberra last night.

Guess what I once had Dinner in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Canberra, it was in 2007 when our Son in-law graduated from the Royal Military College in Canberra.

Oh well not quiet the same as being there last night, but it was special.

I was once lucky to have my quilt on a cover of DUQ's too and when I went to the US last year found the magazine with my quilt on the cover at Zook's in Intercourse, yes I took a photo as it was very special to see my quilt in the heartland of quilting on the shelf with so many other magazines.

cooking up a storm....

Well I have been putting off cooking for some time, but having a new kitchen and a new grand daughter it is fun to decide what to cook and take over to my daughters place so she can get better quickly and concentrate on that.

I didn't have my Mum near by when my children grew up and I would like to make it a little easier for her while she is getting over the c-section.
She is a very strong person and likes to be doing things on her own, but I know she appreciates it very much.

So Thursday I cooked Lasagna and it went down a treat. Today I made Zucchini slice ( hiding lots of veggies for the little ones) for the lunches tomorrow, cupcakes for this afternoon and Goulash for tonight.

See the Lolly jar, it gets filled every Sunday and everyone in the family knows this, so as they all come by the first thing they do is check out the jar and help themselves. Mind you it has to be the right type of lollies..... our family favourite is HARIBO Licorice all sorts and Licorice snails.

Even now the little one Emily has found the jar and just loves to check it out and has to have some Licorice.

Today our daughter had her third daughter Tahlia Maree yes 8 pound 10, not like the other two 5 and 7 pounds.

We knew she was arriving today as it had to be a C-section, she is beautiful Mum and Baby are doing well and Sophie and Emily have been to visit and think she is special too.

Sorry no pictures as Mum and Dad don't like pictures everywhere.

Hand quilted Dresden Plate

As promised a post about my Dresden Quilt, another one I love and have hand quilted. If you like to read more and see more quilts that have been hand quilted go here, Caron Mosey is collecting links to hand quilters and it is wonderful to be able to read about others.

As I said in a previous post I lap quilt, I have a favourite tool I use for any straight line quilting it is called the Hera Marker ( it is the best thing and also works for machine quilted quilts) It leaves a shiny indent on the fabric, no mess no worry about getting
anything out of the fabric. It is another great product by Clover.

I love using Clover Betweens # 12 and use mostly Guetterman Hand Quilting Thread, I also use chalk powder, slivers of Soap,2B Pencil to mark my quilts.

My favourite batting is Heirloom Cotton ( crinkle look after wash), Thermore ( for easy quilting) and Hobbs Poly Down.
I will show you in another post how I quilt.

I love to hand quilt

When I first started Patchwork & Quilting I thought I had to learn to hand quilt as that is what drew me to quilts.
After trying and taking classes I could not use a Hoop or Thimbles and thought I could not hand quilt.

I still wanted too, so I tried to lap quilt and changed my technique that suited me and the rest is history. Having taught many hand quilting classes and seeing people taking up hand quilting is really great.

There is just something about it and while it takes much longer it sure makes a quilt even more special to me.

I will try and do a tutorial in the near future and show you how I hand quilt without a Hoop or Thimble.

You can see some of my hand quilted quilts a few posts ago, I will also take a picture of my Dresden Plate tomorrow and add it to this Post.

Baking = Weight gain

I follow this blog Mennonite Girls can cook and have made a few of their recipes.
This was the latest one, Cinnamon Buns, wow they are so yummy and you can freeze them too.
The recipe made a huge amount, I took one to my daughter, DH took some to work, some we ate and the others went in to the freezer.

They are amazing, if you like to try a few new recipes go and check them out.

Borrowed Roses

Apple Crumble Muffins.....

Some of you have asked for the recipe, well here it is:

You need:

Muffin tray, mine fits 12 muffins

line with paper cupcake cups or grease the tin

The recipe will make 12 muffins, preheat Oven to 180 degree C

100g Butter or Margarine ( soft )

100g Sugar

2 Eggs

1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract

150g Plain Flour

50g Corn Flour

2 level teaspoons Baking powder

4 Dessert spoons Milk

2 medium size Apples

For the crumble you need:

100g Plain Flour

75g Sugar

75g Butter

some Vanilla extract

Cream Butter, Sugar, Vanilla and Eggs, mix Flour, Corn Flour and Baking powder and add to mixture, slowly add the milk and mix well.

Spoon mixture in to lined or greased Muffin tray, divide evenly.

Peel and dice apples, put some on top of each Muffin.

For the crumble mix flour, sugar, vanilla and break butter in to small pieces in a bowl, use a fork to mix in to a crumble.
Spoon over the Muffins and bake in the Oven, middle shelf for about 12 to 15 minutes.

Check them after 10 minutes as some Ovens are hotter.

3rd post "My Quilts"

The blue and white quilt is a commercial pattern from a book, the designer is from the US ( I think sisters?) and I must find the right name to let you know. I love this quilt.
It is made from lots of scrappy blues and creams, some creams are old fabrics given to me by a friend, she lived in the US for 30 years and moved back here. She had some antique fabrics and shared some with me.

The quilt is machine pieced, hand appliqued and hand quilted, sorry for the creases as it is not hanging on the wall at the moment.
I entered this quilt one year in Sydney and it received the encouragement award, this quilt has been many times in the washing machine and I like it more the older it gets.
The batting is Heirloom 100% cotton, not the easiest to hand quilt, but lovely when done.

The last one is a combined design by Lurline and myself. Lurline found the picture in a Book called Quilts of Winsconsin and the original was made in about 1930's by girls from a College, the quilts where given away as gifts.

Lurline drafted the aplique patterns and passed the project on to me, I appliqued and pieced the quilt. It is hand quilted and again one of my favourites as it is so simple in design.
I named the Quilt " Sleep Baby sleep" in 2009 only to read not long ago the Book by Dr. Annette Gero and find a pattern in the book by Kim Mclean also called Sleep Baby sleep.

The quilt got a 2nd prize in the show and to be honest looked really lost in all the modern designs.
I have a pattern for this quilt available if anyone is interested.
Our little Emily stand in front of this quilt and hugs it and does a clicking sound with her tongue for the Horse, she is 19 month.

This quilt is my own design as well, please do not take any pictures from my blog without permission.

I entered this quilt in 2008, it just grew bigger over time, I did not have a plan when I first started with the centre.
The hexagon centre was started before all the hype about hexagon's, the store I worked for for many years was one of the first stores to have the pre-cut hexagon pieces for sale, the owner got the from the US.The centre is made from 1/2inch hexagons, the log cabin are 1/2inch strips (no foundation piecing), all the applique is needle turn and because of all the small pieces and lots of seams I machine quilted it on my Bernina.
The colours in the last picture are not true, the quilt is more like the first picture.
I think I named it " My Love for 1930's fabrics " told you I am no good in naming quilts.
Have started the pattern for this and hope to be able to get it finished soon.
This quilt received three prizes at the same show, 2nd in it's category, it received a lovely cash prize for " Retaining the Tradition Award" and last but not least Viewers Choice ( that is a wonderful Ribbon to receive)

The Quilts that I am showing are my own designs ( unless otherwise stated), please don't take any images from my blog.

The first one was the start of my love for 1930's print, the little nine patch blocks are 2 and 3/4inch finished and are all pieced from squares ( not strip piecing)

I entered the quilt in 2000 and still love it very much, it is very simple in design and quilting, it got a 1st Prize. The quilt was published I think in 2001 in the Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine as a pattern.

It is called " 1930's Treasure " no I am not very good naming my quilts.

This is my version of Florence Peto's Calico Garden, it is a row shorter and I designed my own borders. You can buy the pattern for the original version from the Shelbourne Museum or you can find it in the book called Enduring Grace.

The original quilt has no copyright, I email the museum and they said that Florence Peto wrote the instruction for a Magazine and never put copyright on the pattern. That is why there are so many version available.

I called my " Olde Worlde " and entered it in 2001 and it received a 1st Prize.
The quilt is all needle turn applique and hand quilted and it does hang straight but my holder upper person ( dear husband didn't have any patience)

Well this lovely box was sitting in my long arm room on a shelf, I had forgotten what was inside.....

so I had a look and ahhhhh there they are... Ribbons I have received over the years I have been making quilts.... not very many but they all mean a lot. They belong to quilts I wouldn't part with as they bring back many memories while making the quilts.

I read the story about a community hit by Cyclone Yasi 8 month ago here on Wendy's blog and how so many people are still doing it tough.

Got the address from Wendy and am sending a parcel in the morning, I had some quilt tops leftover from the once we made for the Queensland floods, some fabric, I also went through my patterns as well as threads and hopefully it will all come in handy.

Hi all

Yes I have been a little quiet, lots of visits's to the doctor, more and more scans as one finds something somewhere else.....
The long and the short of the story is that the CT scan for my ovaries also showed something on my Liver, another ultra sound as they don't like to just have one scan ..... to decide what it is.

Anyway I have to go back in a month to check the issue on my ovary and the good news on my liver is that I have abnormal blood vessels that would have been there all my life.

So all in all not much further other than knowing what I haven't got, mind you that is good too.

I am still in pain with my heal spur and bakers cysts behind my knee on the other leg..... I am not going to tell you what my husband said to do with me..... but it wasn't very nice.

Anyway thanks to all for asking and I am know making a appointment to see the rheumatologist. Yes I am falling apart so what.....grin.

Alma Park Zoo

My daughter and her little ones have annual passes to the local Zoo, only about 5minutes from here and go every two weeks.
Sophie rang me on Tuesday morning to see if I would like to come, well I wouldn't miss spending time with them would I?

We had a lovely morning, it is very funny Emily ( 19 month ) is very scared of all domestic animals, but let her near Lizards, Snakes, Kangaroos she can't get enough, loves them.
Sophie would love a Peacock feather and always hopes to find one, she ask me if she could just pull one out, hm I said to no as it would be like pulling out her hair and she soon changed her mind.
If you click on the pictures you can see a rare white Kangaroo, it was a little shy and wouldn't come to us.

Happy news....

We had some wonderful news, our beautiful daughter in law has been offered a position to become a Anesthetist, it has been a long process but she got the call, only another 5 years of study,grin.

It took her some time to decided the medical field she would like to specialise in, but she is very happy with her choice.

Yesterday we had the complete family over for afternoon tea and dinner, it was lovely. All my children and my children's partners love my old fashion German Apple crumble cake, so I decided to make them as cupcakes instead. Yummy......... all gone.

There are ways on keeping your customers shopping in your store, this is what would work for me:

Have a well stocked sales table..... for backings

Offer a discount on backing when customer purchases all fabric for the top...

Offer 20% off if they come back to purchase batting and backing in the next couple of month after buying their fabric for the top..

Good friendly customer service, even when a small purchase is made

Try and get to know your customers name

If you don't have what they are after, suggest another local business, customers will come back to you because you help them find what they are looking for...

Quick mail order, I don't want to wait 2 weeks for a parcel that is local....

Offer free how too's workshops

Offer smaller cuts, for a flat rate cutting charge, i.e if your customer needs lots of 2inch strips ( charge something like $5 ) they still safe by not having to purchase the minimum of 20cm.

What would make you purchase local and not online?

Hi all

I have decided to overcome my tired feeling and not having any mojo is to clear my head and my sewing room.

well what to do about it?

I was looking after the little ones yesterday and we are going to babysit them both this afternoon and tonight.
Have not done much sewing as I just can't find the mojo and always feel tired.
It is I think because I need to do some exercise and get out and about. The weather has been just lovely and I try do do a little gardening, not to much as you all know I saw my first snake in our garden last easter and I am not a happy camper.

The sewing rooms are full of stuff I want to make, but I start sewing and half an hour later I get sidetracked. I actually feel very guilty about all the stuff I have, yes it happens to me on a regular basis.

I was tying to go this year and see my mother in Germany, but as our daughter is having baby number three and her husband going to Afghanistan in January next year, we need to be around to help.
His tour of duty is no longer then 6 month and after that we can have a holiday.

Hope you all get lots done.

Our youngest is 23 and he picked up this fridge from the side of the road ( it was put out for collection) and he rewired it, new compressor and thermostat. It got a paint job and doesn't it look funky?
I think it was made in 1950, love it.

Can't show you all I have been doing as some work is a customer quilt for a magazine, but I have done a little something I can share..

Finished another charity quilt, just did a little fun quilting and love it. It would be easy done on a domestic machine too.

I am going to order some more patterns of the above Baltimore Quilt, if you have ever wanted to make a Baltimore I think this is it.

You can find a picture here at Sue Garman's blog, the complete pattern will be

$ 110 Australian including postage in Australia.

I can send a pay pal invoice to make payment safe, if you are interested let me know and I get in touch when I have received the patterns and require payment.
It should be in about 8 -10 days.

It is the Baltimore I am going to make for us and have started with the prep work.

I have seen this pattern advertised on one Australian shop website for
$ 264 plus postage. Yes pattern only........ or $ 22 per month plus $ 4 postage per month over 12 month, so if my math is correct that would be a grand total off $ 312 for the pattern only.

Retreat with friends....

Pieced my tumbler top

Made a little flying geese quilt ( don't look to close as not everything is straight, grin no quilt police here )

I had a wonderful time away with 11 lovely ladies, thank you for having me.... PPP
The weather was great, we stayed at Stacey's at the Gap, a retreat on top of Cunningham's Gap and didn't have to lift a finger regarding breakfast, lunch and dinner as it was all prepared and laid out for us.
No dishes, no clearing tables nothing.....

The best thing for me was that I was met at my car by Leonie and her husband Mal ( who own the retreat ) with a trolley, so NO lifting of our machines or anything heavy for anyone.

It made my weekend, as often I do my back in by lifting the sewing machine and suffer in pain.

The day will also be a day to remember the massive loss of life in the USA, hard to believe it has been ten years.
It was the year my daughter finished her University Degree and Ansett Airline went under, leaving my husband without a job and 16000 others.

My son's best friend working for QIMR is one of the young Doctors in his field and has had many works published, you can read about his work here he is currently on a fellowship in Cardiff and will be back in Australia this year.
The research will help all of us and many are fighting cancer or have family with cancer and other diseases, every $ 5 will help.

After finally finishing the applique and a few hundred Berries, Salina Browne has got a border. I couldn't make up my mind and when I was in Gatton yesterday for the Applique meeting ( TAS ) I found the border. Mind you I didn't have my top with me and thought that they had two fabrics at Sew Creative that would work.

Bought enough of the two fabrics and settled for this one. I am happy now and will get it ready for hand quilting, have got my batting ready and now only need to find a backing from my stash.

The meeting was lovely and Deidre showed us all her lovely quilts, tops and work in progress. I didn't get any pictures as I was helping holding the quilts.
Deidre does lovely applique and has some wonderful UFO's on the go.

Back to the sewing room, I would like to finish another top.

Good news

I had given up hearing from the Doctor today, but the phone rang after 7pm tonight and it was the Breast Surgeon ( lovely Doctor) giving me the good news that there is no cancer.

While there is some fibrous tissue, everything is benign and the breast clinic is happy to see me in 12 month, while my Doctor would like to see me in 6 month.

Thank you again to all that have sent me good vibes and well wishes.

Go Baby ...

Sorry blogger got my pictures in the wrong order.....

While I am waiting to hear about my results I thought I start playing with my Go Baby
and share what I have been doing.

I received three Dies with my little Go Baby, Tumbler, BABY and Hearts.
You can see in the pictures how easy it is to cut out the shapes and quick. I am cutting six layers of fabric at a time.
Click on the little button on the right side of my blog and download 22 free patterns.

Also stay tuned and I post as the little quilt comes together and there might be a little surprise to one of my followers very soon.

Doesn't that already look good, it will be a little quilt for our new grandchild to use in the pram. I am going to raw edge applique the letters when quilting it.

You can see in the next picture how easy the row match together, just press the seam opposite in each row

The pieces match so easy because of the way the shapes are cut, you just match them up, no pinning.

First I like to thank all of you in blogland for the lovely comments and cyber hugs, as well as good wishes.
I have had my two biopsy's today and am a little sore, but not to bad at all.

Mind you I have had ice on it, so all is a little numb.
The results should be coming in tomorrow and I have my fingers crossed.

If any of you out there ever need to have anything done and you live in Brisbane, please go to the Wesley Breast Clinic, the staff, the volunteers are all so very caring. I have been looked after and cared for this afternoon, just wonderful.

that phone call...

Well yes I got the dreaded phone call from my GP after my Mammogram and Ultra sound, so I went last Friday to see him and he told me there is something different and it was recommended for me to see a Breast surgeon.

So he told me to call and tell them it is urgent, got in on Monday morning and yes she agreed there is definitely a change.

Today is the day I am going to have two ultra sound guided core biopsy's, not sure how I feel about it...
I have had one many years ago and because at that time it all happened really quick it didn't worry me, but this time I have had time to think and worry.

I am lucky my DDIL is currently at the same Hospital ( for work, she is a Doctor ) and said would come to see me if I need her.
We had a good chat last night. You see I read the report for the Ultrasound and mammogram and in there was a word " neoplasm" I didn't know what it was, told my GP that I had read the report and he ask if I understood what the work mend, I said no and he said well: cancer.

My daughter in law corrected it last night and said it mend tumor and could be benign or maligned, so not quiet as definite.
Anyway I have quilts to make so all will be good.

What I bought in Melbourne & this and that..

This is a very old project I started middle to late 1990's and I had all the applique cut out and ready to stitch.
I still like the pattern but not sure about the fabrics as in those days we couldn't get much in reproduction fabrics here in Australia ( or maybe I didn't know about them that much)
Anyway while away in Melbourne I bought two backgrounds and started stitching the first block, I think I will have to add some gold to lift it all, hmmmm or I might just stitch one block and see if someone likes it better the me, grin.

The next pictures show Sophie's first quilt, laugh that is what she is calling it ( just turned four) she cut up some of my fabric squares ( from a swap for my Tumbler quilt, sorry ) she glued them together, cut out some paper pictures and glued them on top.
Her first quilt, love it.

The next picture shows a little quilt I have just stitched, I saw it first on Cyndi's blog and left a comment about the wonderful sashing fabric.
Cyndi emailed me and said she has a little left and would I like the kit, well yes I did.... happy dance.
We had a swap, Cyndi wanted a Australian Patchwork magazine and I got the wonderful little kit. Cyndi goes to shows in the US with all her wonderful patterns and fabrics, go and check out her blog.

This quilt won the Best in Show for the " Fabric of Society " quilt challenge, the book is by Dr Annette Gero and I just loved the quilts. The hexagons are 1/4 inch..

Melbourne Quilt show.......

The first three images are from The Best of Show by Desley from Addicted to Quilts, sorry it was hanging at the back in a dark spot and I only had my iphone. I believe the quilt was later moved in to a different spot at the front.

Knitting found in strange places

Below is a places I think in Ballan, we had coffee and the best Vanilla slice, great place but it was a little smokey due to the indoor wood burner, loved the place

Patchwork shop " Gail's Emporium", look at the lovely Birdhouse, the Garden, the driveway to the shop and the Stone building that is home to the shop.

Deidre and I went to Melbourne early Wednesday morning, arrived on time , got our car and plugged in the Tom tom and drove to the first shop called Somerset, we both belong to their fabric club and really wanted to see the shop.
We also visited Amity, Patchwork on Central and one more, oh dear forgot the name.

A few things had to come home with me and I will show you in the next few days.
We got to our hotel in the afternoon and had dinner downstairs, yummy Goat cheese tart and some Wine was enjoyed too.

Thursday we walked over to the Quilt show, only a short walk. We had a great time looking at lovely quilts and some more shopping.
I have taken pictures of the most beautiful quilts ( to me ) and will show you some here soon.
The quilts where hang in a zigzag fashion and it didn't make it easy for viewing them.

We decided not to go back to the show and went to Castlemaine instead, wow I loved the shop Threadbear and had to make some more purchases ( pictures to come)
Drove home via Ballarat and Ballan and visited Gaile's Emporium a patchwork shop, loved the building and the setting, just beautiful.

Saturday we got up late and went to the Queen Victoria market and flew home in the afternoon.
Thanks Deidre I had a great time.
We went to many shops and I didn't write all the names down, but many are well worth a visit.
