Hi Christine
What I'd really like to see in a Quilting book is one that isn't prescriptive. One that gives you ideas to help you be creative in your own way. e.g. techniques for cutting fabrics and recombining them to make new patterns etc.
Cheers

My favorite things in quilt books are lots of photos, and illustrated pictures of the difficult steps. I also like to buy on themes, with several different projects (quilts, runners, pillows, etc) to make it worth my money. Thanks for asking!

I want a quilt book with many many piecing possibilities, lots of picture, clear explanations, and fabrics that I love(bright colors and/or pastels)

My favorite think in a quilting book are the enticing pictures!

I love photos that show color ways too.

Tips for easy or mass assembly is good too.

Photos, photos and more photos along with simple easy to understand instructions. As to designs I'm easy, I'm a piecer and do also enjoy foundation piecing, but really just love books and other peoples take on colour.

Hi Christine,

I like quilting books with lots of photos descibing step by step or showing nice fabrics....

I like a "clean" layout.....and SCRAPPINESS....definately scrappiness.

Hi Christine,

I like a lot of pictures in a quilting book. Pictures how to make the quilt step by step because I use English books and that is a foreign language to me. I also love the pictures of the finished quilts draped on a wooden fence or a nice looking veranda.

I like to see some new ideas and some good tips and tricks. I love pictures that have interesting color combinations in them as well.

I agree...PICTURES! I also like detailed drawings when necessary to show a difficult technique. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your wonderful giveaway!

For me...pictures! It's all about the photos and illustration of steps. Plus having little "tips" is wonderful...you know, the tried and true kind. Don't need my quilting books to have recipes. I have cookbooks for that. :-)

I like to see nice photos and clear instructions in a quilting book. I also like to see time-saving tips or pointers for the tricky steps :) I need all the help I can get!

Yvette said...

Photo's, photo's and more photo's. I like to see patterns used with more than one fabric line and color.

Oh, did I mention I like photo's? LOL

I have to agree with most of the other commenters.... PHOTO's!! I love seeing the quilts in differnt fabric lines, in different settings, etc. I also love when they show pictures of the assembley. I have difficulty decifering some of the instructions.

Happy Quilting!

Hi, Just ran across your blog today. Very nice and a bonus giveaway!. I think the thing I appriciate most in a quilt book is clear and simple instructions. Ones that have been tested and are correct. Maybe even instructions in 2 sizes and I also agree with the previous comments that many images that are clear and clean and bright make a book so much more fun to look at and refer back to often. Thanks Lizzie

I like quilting books with lots of pictures and easy to follow directions. I really like the magazines that put in more than one colorway when they do a quilt.

Hi Christine, as an avid quilting/piecing/applique book lover i will read almost anything. what i'd love is help on what makes a block 'pop' with colour and how to pick the right fabric choices for a pattern so i can be more inventive. Thanks for the generous givaway!

Lizzie said...

Hmmm, ideas, colours and directions are important for me in a book. I like to take an idea and move it around, colour is my downfall, I have problems putting them together, so other peoples colour/fabric choices always give me inspiration.

A quilting book needs to inspire, so the photos have to be fabulous! The patterns need to be adaptable to different sizes and fabrics and I have to want to make at lease two things out of the book before I buy it!

sharon said...

I also like lots of pictures in books, helps me visual the pattern. Would be nice to see different colour variations on a quilt too, and close ups of quilting patterns---love that too. Thank you for having a giveaway Sharon.

I love learning new techniques and then going with them. So I am always on the lookout for books with things I haven't done before.

What do you look for in a book?

I love books with patterns that can be used in different types of designs, in different ways. I always use the books that have great patterns that I can mix with others to make something of my own.

I work on a mac, if you need help with photos, feel free to email me.

Hi Christine, WOW! isn't it just so difficult to get one's self going sometimes? I just turn to my fabrics and plunge in!

Quilting Books need to focus clearly on the more difficult points with more than just words, but with the use of multiple clear photos.

Love your Blog! Love,Linda

I like lots of photos in a quilt book, and I must have the photo with the quilt patterns. Nothing irritates me more than when all the pictures are together and you have to flip to find the pattern. The fabrics in a book definately influence me.

I love quilt books that have lots of photos. I like seeing the designs made up but I also love technique books like Freddy Moran and Gwen Marston's books "Colloborative Quilting or Ricky Tims Convergence Quilt book.
Fun giveaway Christine.

I love to see different quilting designs in a quilting book....instead of 'quilt as desired', I'd like to see some design options and how to do them! Why do they think I buy a book if I was that creative already??????

Hi Christine, I have always dreamt of doing a book on fussy cutting hexagons, stars etc. to get secondary patterns and also
getting other quilters to contribute theirs as well. What a feast!!! Cheers Sharron

I like to see a lot of pictures to get ideas. I might not make the same quilt, just use the idea to make my own.

Clear instructions are a must in any quilt book. I'm currently working on a quilt from a book/software with very bad directions on how to actually make the quilt. Very frustrating!

Thank you for the chance!

Thank you for your giveaway Christine. I would like to see suggested quilting patterns for the finished quilt. I always get stumped as to how to quilt a quilt when it is finished and to see two or three different ways would be inspirational. Also photos of different colourways would be good!

Shiree said...

hmmm lots of colour photos, clear simple and concise instructions in a decent font, and I quite like it when there is a theme, i.e. jelly roll quilts, or scrap quilts, or a range of gift goodies on a similar vein. I usually look for several projects that I am interested in, as just one project doesn't really seem to be cost conscious

By Hoki Quilts said...

Hi Christine, like everyone else photo's are the way to go, along with clear step by step instructions that also highlight special points and ideas. Different colourways of finished quilts shown and... here's something different - the reverse side of pieced blocks, sometimes the pressing plan can make all the difference. Then finally, really good close ups of the quilting itself taken in decent light. whew, that was a mouthful eh?
Many thanks for this chance, hugs

How generous of you!

What I look in a book is a lot of pictures and close ups and good instructions.

I am learning how to use my iMac, too. One tip I can give you is to drag the picture from your iPhoto to the desktop, this doesn't move your picture, just makes a copy on the desktop so you can find it easier and you can edit it if you wish. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the giveaway and Happy sewing!

The best quiting books for me are books with lots of pictures to get me inspired and lots of reading about quilting. A few good patterns will be nice, but not necessarily for me, I will be able to draw the patterns myself!

I like a book with lots of photos also. I always need clear instructions that are easy to understand. I also like it if tips are included to help making the quilt a little easier. Showing the project in more than one color way is a plus also. Thanks for the chance to win. Blessings,Karen

What I like to see in a quilting book is fabric requirements for different sizes of the same quilt. I know you can always guess how much you will need for a different size, but it is nice if you don't have to. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway and the opportunity to win.

I would like a quilting books on quilts that use "theme" fabrics, ie: music, cats, sewing, butterflies etc. I have just a wee few too many theme boxes I fear.
