Well it was time that I washed these two quilts, I try and wash all my quilts even if they haven't been used once a year. They get washed more often if in use.
Now I never pre-wash fabrics and I just wanted to show you how much dye comes out of the fabric even after the quilts have been washed more then once. So to me pre-washing fabrics doesn't give me the guarantee they won't run anymore and I like using the fabrics as they come from the shop. All my quilts are washed after completion.
I always put two or three colour catchers in with the wash, the quilts are washed in a warm cycle (40 degree) front loader, they are spin dried at about 800rpm. Spinning out the water will reduce the stress on the seams when hanging your quilt to dry.
My quilts are dried outside in the shade and I will rotate them a couple of times until almost dry, they then come in and stay on the spare bed till the next day.
On Sunday I will be having High Tea at Joseph Alexander here in Brisbane, it is part of my to be daughter in laws Hens Party weekend.
Hope you all have a great weekend and thank you to all you lovely ladies who gave me a gentle push to get motivated to sew.
cheers
Christine

I love those dye catchers. I'm starting to not wash all of my fabrics either but I still do the darker ones to help prevent crocking of the dye and get the excess out. I like to wash mine when they're done, I think it freshens them up.
Those colour catchers are a great invention... I don't pre-wash generally but I am very very careful with my reds...
Those are very lovely quilts - and have fun at the hen's party - sounds like a perfect venue - will you buy any pyjamas?
Oops - didn't read very well - I had Peter Alexander in mind - very LOL - this is obviously a very posh Brisbane hotel so have fun! Better not wear your pyjamas... now I'm off for a bit of a lie down...
Thanks so much for sharing how you wash your quilts, I haven't used those dye catchers, must invest in some. Have a wonderful time on Sunday, high teas are fun, specially with a bunch of females! xo
Thank you for sharing how you wash your quilts. Till now I always pre-washed my fabric, till this week, I just begun a project where I get my fabric cut in an envelope, and then it is difficult to pre-wash. So I'll go and buy those dye catchers.

You take such good care of your quilts - they look amazing.
where do you get the colour catchers from????
also do you still put salt or vinegar in it........
Do the colour catchers really work well!
I'm so scared of colours running on my DJane..I still need to buy the c/catchers..
The quilts are gorgeous..Love the Dresden plate quilt.
have fun at the party!

High tea sounds like a great idea for a hen's party! I do love your quilts :) I am not much of a quilter ... yet, but I do want to be.
These are beautiful quilts...Love the scalloped border!
I love your quilts! What a need product that is!

Those Color Catchers are great. I am not a pre-washer either and I love the washed wrinkled quilts. Your red and white quilt with the red scalloped binding is gorgeous.
I just washed a quilt today-definitely at least 2 color catchers even after the quilts have been washed and I do wash my fabrics before-though I'm rethinking that!
Love the Dresden Plate!
I spread my washed quilts on a spare bed & turn on the overhead fan! Or I drape them over the rollers on my LA[if it isn't in use] & turn a fan on them, both methods dry the quilts lightning fast.
I don't prewash fabrics either UNLESS I know from experience it will bleed badly-I have a donated bolt of PBR brushed cotton[for QOV quilts etc] & it runs like crazy so I prewash, dye catchers/Retayne & dry on hot!
Lucky you going out for "tea"!
